The audition
Okay so I have soooo many blogs to upload as there was very little internet available as Kai and I parked/camped on mountains, cliffs, beaches and anywhere else we bloody well liked. So I will start back at the beginning and work my way through.
We drove down to Orange county to the Oprah auditions and to be honest it was not anywhere near as big a deal as I thought it was going to be. We arrived at 1 am and there was a handful of cars waiting to audition and by four in the morning there was still only about 200 people.
They let the keen few line up at 4.30 and by 6 had let us all (by this time about 400 people) in and believe it or not by 8.30 am we had been seen. I ended up being talked into auditioning then and there by my friend Vi and before I knew it I was swept up, given a wrist band and was standing with 11 other people pitching our show ideas.
Got to tell you I was sooooo glad I did not go all the way to Atlanta for the sixty seconds we all got. Basically the live auditions were for people who had NOT or would not have uploaded videos and I had put on my form that mine was going up that night (when in actual fact it only went up less than a week before the voting ended…oops!). So basically even though I pitched my show and everyone cheered and blah blah whatever whatever none of us will know if we are finalists till the next few weeks when/if someone calls us. Otherwise it will simply fade off into the compilation of memories I have of auditions I went for and didn’t get and believe me there is a looong list of those including the role Gia Carrides played in Strictly Ballroom and the role Catriona Rowntree beat me to on Wonder World. Sigh. Sliding doors….I could have married Anthony la Paglia or been the bikini babe on Getaway hahahahaha. Dreaming, I know!
Anyway I was done before Kai had even woken up (he was safely tucked in the van with someone taking turns watching him) and so I glad I didn’t spend a thousand dollars on gas for the fastest minute of my life. It was good to put the whole audition process into perspective as well. Here’s the funny thing. I said I would manifest an “appearance” on Oprah’s show and when they filmed the audition I am the girl with the yellow cardboard sign in the corner Where’s Wally style so TECHNICALLY I did what I said hahahaha. Of course I still would like to have my own show, be on Oprah’s show (whatever channel it is on) and will never ever give up my dream of that but may just fine tune my creative visualisation. We won’t know till July if we have made it to the next stage so the only thing to do now is move onto the next thing – first building up Finding My Mojo into a positive feel good informative entertaining website, give my son an adventure he will enjoy and find my own Mojo along the way.
The funniest thing about the audition was that random people I had never met before came up to me having recognised the campervan and said they had been reading my blog. Weirdness!
Anyway will upload some footage of the auditions and some of the crazy oops I mean interesting people I met there when I sort out a new hard drive as my computer is suffering with all the “weight” of the HD footage. So now the world is our oyster and we can’t wait for the next adventure………next stop: wherever we want!
